The following are quotes-not an e-book.  I thought they were powerful, so I decided to share them with you.  I hope you enjoy them and they inspire you to greatness.

"There is no such thing as a 'self-made' man. We are made up of
thousands of others. Everyone who has ever done a kind deed for us, or
spoken one word of encouragement to us, has entered into the make-up of
our character and of our thoughts, as well as our success."

George M. Adams
(1878-1962)  American Author

From Ralph Waldo Emerson on his summation of what success is:

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.  This is the meaning of success!"

From Denis Waitley:

Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker.  Failure is delay, not defeat.  It is a temporary detour, not a dead end.  Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.

From Winston Churchill:

NEVER GIVE IN, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER

October 29, 1941

Harrow School

"You cannot tell from appearances how things go.  Sometimes imagination makes things out far worse than they are; yet without imagination not much can be done. Those people who are imaginative see many more dangers than perhaps exist; certainly many more than will happen; but then they must also pray to be given that extra courage to carry this far-reaching imagination.  But for everyone, surely, what we have gone through in this period - I am addressing myself to the School - surely from this period of ten months this is the lesson:  never give in, never, never, never, never-in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense.  Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.  We stood all alone a year ago, and to many countries it seemed that our account was closed, we were finished.  All this tradition of ours, our songs, our School history, this part of the history of this country, were gone and finished and liquidated."

"Time and tide wait for no man" - author unknown

The processes of nature continue, no matter how much we might like them to stop.  The word "tide" meant "time" when this proverb was created; today, the word as  used in the proverb is usually thought of in terms of the sea, which certainly does not wait for anyone.

Look at what happened to two of the biggest "failures" in history:

Abraham Lincoln

Failed in business at age 21

Was defeated in a legislative race at age 22

Failed again in business at age 24

Overcame the death of his sweetheart at age 26

Had a nervous breakdown at age 27

Lost a Congressional race at age 34

Lost a Congressional race at age 36

Lost a Senatorial race at age 45

Failed in an effort to become vice-president at age 47

Lost a senatorial race at age 49

Was elected President of the United States at age 52

Could Lincoln have become president if he had seen these events as failures?  It is not likely.

Thomas Edison

There is a famous story about Thomas Edison.  After he'd tried 9,999 times to perfect the light bulb and hadn't succeeded, someone asked him, "Are you going to have ten thousand failures?" He answered, "I didn't fail.  I just discovered another way not to invent the electric light bulb."  He had discovered how another set of actions had produced a different result.

THE MAN IN THE GLASS

When you get what you want in your struggle for gain

An the world makes you king for the day,

Just go to the mirror and look at yourself

And see what that man has to say.

It isn't your mother, or father, or wife.

Whose judgement upon you must pass.

The one whose verdict counts most in your life,

Is the one staring back in the glass.

He's the one you must satisfy beyond all the rest.

For he's with you right up to the end.

And you have passed your most difficult test.

If the man in the glass is your friend.

You may be the one who got a good break.

And think you're a wonderful guy.

But the man in the glass says you're only a fake.

If you can't look him straight in the eye.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years.

And get pats on the back as you pass.

But your final reward will be heartaches and tears.

If you've cheated the man in the glass.

Sheila Murray Bethel--"Getting control of your life comes about when you are willing to let go.  Let go of old ideas, concepts, resentments, and attitudes.  Only then is there room for new successful ideas."

Elbert Hubbard--Friend:  One who knows all about you and loves you just the same.

Helen Keller--One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar.

William Jennings Bryan--Destiny is not a matter of chance.  It is a matter of choice.  It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.

Marie Curie--Nothing in life is to be feared.  It is only to be understood.

Ralph Waldo Emerson--You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.

Mark Twain--The secret of success is making your vacation your vocation.

Ronald E Osborn--Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.

Richard Nixon--A man is not finished when he is defeated, He is defeated when he quits.

Robert Schuller--Tough times never last, tough people do.

James Matthew Barrie--Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.

Robertson Davies--The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend.

John F Kennedy--The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining.

Eleanor Roosevelt--No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

Elbert Hubbard--I woud rather be able to appreciate things I can not have than have thing that I am not able to appreciate.

John D Rockefeller--I do not think there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverence.  It overcomes almost everything, even nature.

Booker T Washington--I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position one has reached in life, as by the obstacles he has had to overcome while trying to succeed.

Ben Sweetland--Success is a journey, not a destination.

Howard Mewton--Tact is the art of making a point without making an enemy.

Donald Mcgannon--Leadership is action, not position.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow--We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done.

O. W. Holmes--The greatest thing in the world is not so much where we stand, but in what direction we are moving.

Ralph Waldo Emerson--What lies behind you and what lies before you pales insignificant when compared to what lies within you.

Mary Crowley--One person with a commitment is worth more than a hundred who have only an interest.

Helen Keller--Worse than being blind would be to be able to see but not have any vision.

Mary Crowley--People need loving most when they deserve it the least.

Daniel Pena--Conventional wisdom is the scripture of mediocrity—fortune
cookie proverbs that make losers feel better about themselves.
